How to determine if you are eligible for free hearing services
Under the Office of Hearing Services’ scheme you may be entitled to a free comprehensive hearing assessment and hearing rehabilitation, including the selection of and fitting of hearing aids if you are:
- 21 years or older and an Australian citizen or permanent resident
and:
- a Pension Concession cardholder; or
- receiving sickness allowance from Centrelink; or
- the holder of a Gold Repatriation Health Card issued for all conditions; or
- the holder of a White Repatriation Health Card issued for a condition that includes hearing loss; or
- a dependent of a person in one of the above categories; or
- a member of the Australian Defence Force; or
- a dependent of a person who is undergoing a vocational rehabilitation service (CRS) and referred by your case worker
If you are eligible, you can obtain an application form from your doctor or a hearing services provider such as AudioClinic which is fully accredited by the Office of Hearing Services.

Tax Benefits
The cost of hearing aids form part of your annual medical expenses for tax purposes. If you have medical expenses of more than $1,500 in one financial year, you may be eligible for a net medical expenses tax offset.
